Tisha B'Av Services

  • Schechter Manhattan 805 Columbus Avenue New York United States (map)

Join Shaare Zedek and Kehilat Hadar for Ma'ariv and a reading of Eicha on Wednesday, July 26 at 8:30 PM. We will provide booklets for Ma'ariv and Eicha.

We are looking for a few volunteers to help with setup and cleanup at Schechter. Please email tamar@kehilathadar.org.

We are not holding services on Tisha B'Av day, Thursday, July 27.  Hadar Institute invites the KH and SZ communities to join them for a day of in-person and online learning and prayer. You can learn more and register here: https://www.hadar.org/learn/classes-events/tisha-bav-hadar

Halachic Notes
The fast begins at 8:17 PM on Wednesday and ends at 8:49 PM on Thursday.
Davening is done quietly, without nusah, and with the lights off. Feel free to bring a flashlight (no candles) and a siddur.
We will be sitting on the floor, with chairs available for those who need.
As a sign of mourning, it is customary not to greet people on Tisha B'Av.

Giving Tzedakah on Tisha B'Av:
We are told in the Torah to turn our suffering as in Egypt into empathy for the vulnerable. We enact this on Tisha B'Av, a day of remembrance for sufferings, by collecting donations. We will announce shortly which organizations we plan to collect for.
