  • Franciscan Community Center 214 West 97th Street New York, NY, 10025 United States (map)

Sponsored by the David, Ursula, & Adina Michaeli Memorial Education Fund at Shaare Zedek

"Go forth… to the land that I will show you…
And all the families of the earth shall be blessed because of you."

Becky Cohen-Keshet, lawyer for social justice at Rabbis for Human Rights, will share with us the challenges and successes working with people often overlooked in Israeli society. Hear stories about how their voices are heard in the courts and Knesset, through personal advocacy and policy changes, to make Israeli society one of more justice and equity. Join the Shaare Zedek community for this special event which will follow Shabbat morning services and a full kiddush lunch.

Advocate Becky Cohen-Keshet is an Israeli human rights attorney specializing in public housing, social security, and labor law. She serves as Rabbis for Human Rights’ chief legal counsel on social and economic justice, working to ensure that clients of Hadera Rights Center get full access to their social rights and entitlements. Adv. Cohen-Keshet plays a critical role in RHR's Knesset social justice advocacy work where she works with and before lawmakers and policy officials in order to advance social and economic justice law and policy. Adv. Cohen-Keshet's work over the years reflects her deep commitment and expertise in empowering Israeli citizens and has focused on working with underserved women living in Israel's periphery, to provide them with tools and skills to help them understand and pursue their legal rights, and to act as community activists.

Adv. Cohen-Keshet, an Orthodox Jew, was born in the United States in 1970. She came to Israel in 1980 with her family and now resides in Beer Sheva. She and her husband are raising three children.
