Loving the Land and Pursuing Peace

  • Congregation Ansche Chesed 251 West 100th St. New York, NY 10025 (map)

Presented by the Shalom Hartman Institute of North America

With the support of the Michaeli Memorial Education Fund at Shaare Zedek, we are pleased to co-sponsor -- with 14 other local synagogues and organizations -- the Hartman Institute's six-part series, Jewish Values and the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict.

Can we elevate the divisive discourse about Israel in our communities to a productive communal debate? Does being diaspora Jews impact our view of the situation? What values color how we view the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and how it should be addressed? What does peace actually mean in Jewish tradition?
This series will transform a conversation that is often about advocacy to one about values. We will probe questions of prioritization, different visions of what peace can mean and how the Israel-Diaspora relationship influences the conversation.

The fifth talk will be given at Congregation Ansche Chesed by Dr. Ruth Calderon, a former Member of Knesset, iEngage Project Fellow for the Shalom Hartman Institute, and founder of Israeli organizations that embrace a pluralistic Israeli-Jewish identity. Moderated by Rabbi Joanna Samuels, Executive Director of the Manny Cantor Center.

Shaare Zedek members can attend any individual lecture or the entire series for free. To receive the registration code, please contact office@sznyc.org or call 212-874-7005, then register at www.shalomhartman.org/nycollaborative.
