Rofei Kol Basar: The Case for Wellness through Plant-Based Nutrition

  • Franciscan Community Center 214 West 97th Street New York, NY, 10025 United States (map)

Shaare Zedek's wellness series returns with a talk by SZ member Lianna Levine Reisner.

In a society where chronic illness is the norm, and drugs and surgery are the usual answer, it can be startling to hear stories of healing from diabetes and heart disease. But there is now a growing movement of health practitioners, medical researchers, and lay people who have demonstrated that these and other ailments can be prevented and even reversed through nutrition. Their work puts a spotlight on the benefits of eating a diet composed primarily of "whole" plant foods. However, nutrition research is fraught with challenges, so what are we supposed to believe? Following a whole-food, plant-based kiddush lunch, Lianna will take us on a journey through personal stories and evidence-based science to make a case for plants.

Lianna Levine Reisner is a freelance consultant and facilitator advancing organizational and community change. Lianna serves as the Group Leader of the Manhattan Plant-Based Wellness Network, an independent member organization of the national organization PlantPure Communities, and she holds a certificate in Plant-Based Nutrition from the T.
